HEED Bangladesh (Health, Education and Economical Development) is a Christian, Non Governmental and Non-Profit, National Organization, formed in 1974, by several Western Partner Organizations, to support people displaced by ‘Liberation war of Bangladesh’ in 1971.
In 1978, ‘HEED Bangladesh’ was formed as an arm of HEED Bangladesh program to create jobs and support the war victims by giving economical stability. It is a Fair Trade Organization.
Today HEED Handicrafts work with about 11,000 crafts men, across 304 different groups. They create opportunities for a wide spectrum of people including marginalized crafts men and leprosy cured patients.
55 Years old Sree Nakul Chandra Das (in the Picture) was one of the victims of the war, who moved to the city. He worked for a cane furniture factory. The working conditions were bad and the pay was very less. He and his family struggled for several years before they found about HEED Handicrafts.
HEED Handicrafts learned about the skills of this talented crafts man and formed a group of basket weaving under his leadership. Our beautiful leaf baskets come from Nakuls’ craft group.
