VGS Batik

VGS is a non-profit charitable society based in Gujarat. Founded in the year 1988, VGS works with the mission of developing traditional Kutch art and encouraging women empowerment. It also provides training and market support to the artisans.

The organization has 456 artisans with 80% of them being women. The artisans come from marginalized backgrounds with art as the soul source of income. The group focuses on making women self-sustainable by training them in art forms, which they can pursue, even from the comforts of their home. Tie-dye and batik hand print are the crafts practiced at VGS. This group first started hand print batik, which is a distinctive art of the Kutch region, for this reason it is referred as VGS Batik. The group makes beautiful products clad with the colors of Batik, its offerings include garments for all age groups, textiles, home decor and bags.

The Group carries out various welfare programs like Group insurance, scholarships to artisans’ children, health camps, and capacity building programs, workshops & seminars for artisans’ development.

One of the problems faced by the group is an excess of produce compared to demand as the region lacks marketing support.
