“OM” bag Medium size

This is a fair trade product handmade by artisans in the Kutch region of Gujarat, India. It is made from silk and has fine embroidery work done on the front. It comes in an assortment of colors and designs, with two main themes: mirror work/embroidery or the “OM” symbol. The bag is zipped at the top and the inside contains a large open pocket. It can be casually worn during the day but also makes for an elegant evening sling bag.

The artisan community that makes this product lives on the edge of the great salt desert, the Rann. The fine embroidery is done by a collective of rural women from 130 different villages. Their cooperative focuses on empowering women to achieve socio-economic independence. We decided to work with this group to help the women develop their skills and their socio-economic standing in their communities. Income produced by this product also helps in the development of the villages, which were struck by a terrible earthquake in 2001.
