Workshop on World Fair Trade day

On the occasion of world Fair Trade day, SETU conducted a workshop spreading awareness about the concept of Fair Trade and its importance in today’s world. The session was organized at Chomu village, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The program started with an introduction on the basic Fair Trade model of doing business. How it is an artisan friendly concept and what are its implications in today’s fast paced world. The ten principles of Fair Trade were also discussed. It was explained what the artisans’ rights are & what they should ask for. SETU team also explained the artisans how to calculate the pricing of a product.
The venue for the program was a tailoring center in the village. The participating women artisans have earlier been a part of SETU’s two months long Tailoring Workshop held in the beginning of 2017.

They already work as a group and due to training & work experience at SETU, have now got bulk orders from a firm to make designer dresses for a fashion show…  The women say that their lives have been changed for the better as they are now able to live with dignity and contribute in the family income. Their family members also respect them and seek their opinion in family matters. This is a very positive outcome and the artisans are overwhelmed with their new found independence.
