Celebrating World Fair Trade day at SETU

Awareness campaign on Fair Trade

The World Fair Trade Day is an initiative of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) that takes place on the second Saturday of May every year. It is an inclusive worldwide festival of events celebrating Fair Trade as a powerful means of socio-economic transformation for the world’s most vulnerable population.

SETU observed the World Fair Trade Day by organising an awareness campaign on the concept of Fair Trade on 9th May 2015. The campaign was carried out at all the major tourist attractions of Jaipur city like Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Jal Mahal and Gaurav Towers etc. The campaign was organized in association with JKSMS & Arawali.

As part of the campaign, SETU team members made people aware about the noble concept of Fair Trade. They distributed brochures and handouts to explain the ten principles of fair Trade and its need in the present times. A simple quiz was also conducted covering topics about Fair Trade objectives to generate interest and fair trade products were distributed as prizes to encourage participation of the visitors.Around 150 people were addressed to in the campaign.

The campaign was quite successful as a lot of audience who had not even heard about Fair Trade before pledged to support Fair Trade. A lot of people enquired as to how they can be a part of the Fair Trade movement and many wanted to buy only Fair Trade and ethically sourced products!
