Raising awareness about personal hygiene during the menstrual cycle..

Menstruation is a very important part of women’s life and proper information and good hygiene practices are necessary to avoid serious ailments affecting the body. There are many myths associated with the sensitive issue in our country and women specifically from rural areas and economically weaker sections of the society are not aware about the importance of hygiene during the monthly cycle. To raise awareness on the topic, a workshop was conducted by Setu on 10th of August at our training center located in the Sanjay Nagar slum area.

The women artisans here belong to a Self Help Group and use rags from recycled saree fabric to make doormats and rugs and home décor items like wall hangings etc. Setu helps the artisans in selling the product in the market and also provides them industry quality sewing machines free of cost so that they can do their work with ease.

In the workshop, Setu team answered various questions of women artisans regarding the menstrual cycle and also discussed about the self-sustainability of women in today’s times. Setu head Ms. Rashmi said that it’s very important for a woman to be financially independent as only then she would be more confident and can make her own decisions in life.

Towards the end of the session, free sanitary pads in number of six packets were distributed to each woman participant for six months.. 🙂 and those who were unable to attend the workshop were provided with two packets of free sanitary pads. A total of 45 women participated in the session.
